Other Data: Extract from War Diary 4 Bn 23/8/1918: After a heavy bombardment commencing at 3am, enemy launched a counter attack against the divisional front at 7.20am. Enemy made two distinct attacks, his second one being about noon. He made slow progress and suffered heavy losses. All mgs did excellent work on the advancing enemy, firing the greater part of their ammunition at close range. Several guns were able to engage a German Field Battery at a range of 1400-2000yards. By 3pm, infantry were holding a line on our 3rd system west of Fampoux with a defensive flank along the railway to Feuchy. Bn HQ now establisged in Stirling Camp. Our casualities were light, apart from D Coy (the old 234 MG Coy ) who estimated their casualties as 45. 2/Lt Joyce and 2/Lt Yates were killed and 2/Lt Golden wounded during the early part of operations.;
