Hemsworth County Junior School (situated off Blackstock Road) opened on 29 Oct 1957 to serve part of the Gleadless Valley Estate. The first headteacher was Mr P.E. Berresford and the Junior School initially had eight classrooms for 289 pupils. A separate Infants department, Hemsworth County Infant School, opened on the same date with six classrooms providing accommodation for 240 pupils. The first headteacher of the Infant School was Mary Catherine Hill.
In Sep 1984, Hemsworth Infant and Junior Schools merged to form Hemsworth Junior and Infant School. The school later became known as Hemsworth Primary School. In Sep 2003 Hemsworth Primary School merged with Herdings School to become Valley Park Community Primary School (situated on Norton Avenue, Sheffield, S14). The Hemsworth Primary School was demolished c. 2004.
