Description

The main surviving archive of the Federation was deposited in the Modern Records Centre in April 1974 (MSS.42). This interim check-list describes a further accession of mainly more recent records received in May 1975, after the Federation had ceased to exist, having transferred its engagements to the General and Municipal Workers' Union. It includes Federation minutes, 1960-73 inclusive (leaving a gap in the deposited series, 1955-9), Myers Works Committee minutes, 1963-74 inclusive, and Federation correspondence, 1969-73 inclusive. Amongst other material in the deposit are the minutes of a joint meeting of Federation and Association of British Steel Pen Makers, Nov 1923. The co-operation of the former Secretary of the Federation, Mr N. Ovenden, in arranging the deposit is gratefully recorded; it is a matter for regret that, despite his efforts, it is understood that a quantity of records relating to the Federation at the other factory covered by the Federation, British Pens Ltd., was destroyed before deposit could be arranged.
