The Board was established by Archbishop Fisher to liaise between diocesan bishops and the chaplains in chief of the three Services, and to facilitate the return to civilian life of chaplains released from the Services. In 1948, it changed its name to the Bishops' Board for Service Chaplains. It was dissolved in 1963.
