Administrative / biographical background

Formed on the 'amalgamated' principles which were established by the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, the ASC& J grew rapidly towards the latter part of the 19th century. In 1920-21 it amalgamated with the GUC& J to form the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers.
