Description

The church of St Philip was built in Whitley Road in 1905 as a daughter church of Christ Church, Eastbourne. The site had been given by the Duke of Devonshire in 1901 opposite the church schools which had already been erected and were known initially as Whitley Road Schools. The architect was C E Powell. It became a separate parish on 26 May 1925 and was licenced for the celebration of marriages in the same year.

A wooden church hall was built in 1927, and a new hall was opened on 26 October 1949.
