Folio 160. Letter from H E Ringer, Surveyor of Highways for Rougham parish in the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board, in reply to their letter of 9 March 1885. He writes to explain that he did not know the assessment of the parish had been altered in the year 1883-84 until pointed out by the auditor T Howell K Roberts. As at the time he did not have the valuation at home he copied the last year's rate of the surveyor's account. The alteration was in the vicar's title and he informed Roberts that he would refund him the difference on the rate and pay the sum himself, which he has done, as it was his mistake.
Annotated: 'Referring to section 4 of the Highway Rate Assessment and Expenditure Act 1882, 45 & 46 Vic c 27 (quoting) ask whether the Union Assessment Committee did not give to him notice of the amendment of the valuation list, which was the result of the reduction of the tithes', 23 March 1885.
