John Wesley preached in Hertford on a number of occasions in the 1770's but not until 1818 was the first chapel erected in Railway Street. The second chapel built in 1840 was on a different site in the same street. A site was acquired in Ware Road, Hertford in 1865 and a chapel opened in 1867. This building was renovated in 1929 but finally demolished in 1962 on the opening of the new church and hall.
