Battle Urban District Council: building control plans

Plans approved by the Council until it was abolished by the East Sussex Review Order of 1934. Approval or otherwise was recommended by the Building Committee and the Council's decisions were often, though not invariably, recorded in its minutes, 1923-1934 (DR/B/87/9-11) and referred to in their indexes under the headings 'building bylaws', 'housing' or 'Building Committee'. Since these minute books do not include reference numbers these have been added in pencil in the margin after the deposit of the records to the Record Office

No plans survive before 1924 although the council granted approvals before that date. Plan numbers 123 to 133 were used twice in error and the two series have been distinguished by the addition of (1) and (2)

<p>In 1933 the Council and Battle Rural District Council established a joint Town Planning Committee and plans had to be subjected to planning as well as building control approval. Battle Rural District Council's area was enlarged as from April 1934 by the East Sussex Review Order of that year and for plans approved from that date onwards see DR/A/7</p>
