General files

The files in this section have been preserved as they were created and kept by Avtar Jouhl as President of the Indian Workers Association during the late 1970s and as General Secretary during the late 1980s and early 1990s. They contain a mixture of minutes; policy papers; correspondence; financial records; publications and other campaign papers of the Indian Workers Association and other organisations; some branch records; and a small number of newspaper cuttings.

These general files provide information about the whole range of activities of the Indian Workers Association over a specific time period, together with administrative and financial records produced between these dates. However, there is some overlap between some of the material in these files and papers elsewhere in the collection, and although the general files probably contain the majority of the papers created by the Indian Workers Association during the periods stated above and are a fairly comprehensive source, there will also be gaps in the sequence that might be filled by papers kept in other files and described in other sections of this catalogue.
