Description

Apart from general correspondence from 1796-1939 (some of it concerning earlier members of the Bond family), Bond's papers mainly reflect his literary activities. This included work on the Marlay papers (see GB 0159 My) that he was editing for publication, and notes for his edition of Bercher's Nobility of Women, presented to the Roxburghe Club by Charles Brinsley Marlay. There are also some manuscript poems by Bond and material relating to his role as a Nottingham academic, including English Literature syllabuses.

Arrangement

The Bond collection is divided into two main sections: BD 1-26, files of correspondence and associated papers, arranged chronologically within groups concerning particular topics or people; BD 27-117 consists of literary and other papers.

Administrative / biographical background

Richard Warwick Bond (1857-1943) was educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford, Bromsgrove Grammar School and Queen's College, Oxford. He embarked on an academic and literary career, which culminated in 1911 with his appointment to the Chair of English at the University College, Nottingham. He retired from this post in 1925, but continued his literary activities until his death.
