Description

Folios 166-169. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to [Messer's Street Brothers] 5 Serle Street, Lincolns Inn enclosing a notice of an inquiry to be held by one of their inspectors at East Dereham on 4 May 1875. They request that the notice is inserted into newspapers published or circulated in the district 2 weeks preceding the date of the inquiry and for copies of the newspapers containing the advertisements to be forwarded to them.
Copy of notice from the guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union being the sanitary authority of the rural sanitary district of that union and to the inhabitants of the said district. It states that the guardians presented a petition to the Local Government Board to issue a provisional order to empower the Rural Sanitary Authority to be able to purchase or take lands otherwise than by agreement to carry out sewage and water works. The notice states that Hector Tulloch, Local Government Inspector, will hold a public inquiry on 4 May 1875 at the Assembly rooms, East Dereham. It is signed as witnessed by John Lambert, Secretary to the Local Government Board on 19 April 1875.

Annotated: 'The President. This an application for a provisional order for the compulsory purchase of lands required by the rural sanitary authority for sewage purposes. Write in [illegible] stating that the board will arrange for an inquiry and then arrange accordingly', 12 March 1875.
