This Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge dated 7 July 1777 as Union Lodge. The Lodge met at Christopher Lockwood's Coffee House, Micklegate, York until 1786 when it relocated to the Theatre Coffee House, Petergate. In 1789 the Lodge moved to the house of Brother Coultate before transferring to the Golden Lion, Thursday Market, St Sampson's Square in 1790. In 1870 this Lodge changed its name to York Lodge, No. 236 [SN 941].
