Dorman Long & Co. Ltd. - General Managers Files 1937 - 1938

Series of files taken from the Management Offices sited at Zetland Road, Middlesbrough. The incoming correspondence is addressed to either , General Manager and Director of Dorman Long (Goodenough became the General Manager at the start of 1937 and remained so until late 1938 when he resigned as a Director) or to who held the position prior to this.
The structure of the original filing system has been maintained within this series of records for clarity. The files labelled General have, in the main, correspondence (original incoming mail together with copies of outgoing) with suppliers, prospective customers, industrial organisations and suchlike. Some of the contents is of an incidental nature, requests from individuals or schools for company handbooks or photographs of plant and machinery, notices of deaths of individuals linked to the company (or its customers), changes of address, travel arrangements and hotel bookings for Directors and other company representatives are common themes.
The majority of the material within the files comes within the time-frame 1935-1936, although a small number of items can precede this time if the matter was an ongoing one.
