The delivery position of the six-speed remote controlled synchro-mesh gearboxes released on 14 June 1951 is shown as follows: 2 Development progress: It will be noted that we have completed 1,975 hours of bench testing and 129,889 miles of road testing on various new type engines and new type motor cars. 3 Miscellaneous development: We had a discussion with Self Change Gears yesterday on the automatic gearbox. Investigation should proceed but it seems obvious that this box is too far away to contemplate bringing into production at any specified time. Production (A) During the year ending 31 July 1951, was 42.7 cars per week (49 week year), against a target of 50 cars per week, while our material allocation was 46 cars per week. (B) The average number of cars finished per week since the 1 August 1951, is 42. Attached note: Mr Chapman spoke to mr Johnson and Colonel Siddeley concerning the Bentley position. It has been agreed that Colonel Siddeley will wind this up as soon as possible
