From "Gallantry Awards to 29 Bn MGC" - Meiklejohn "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations SW of Neuve Eglise on 14/4/1918 this officer was in charge of a sub-section covering the exposed flank immediately West of Neuve Eglise. During this time he showed the greatest coolness and bravery in most difficult circumstances. He remained in the open with his teams covering the retirement of the infantry, engaging the enemy at close range until almost surrounded. On the 15th April he was severely wounded in three places early in the afternoon but stayed at his post until 7pm when, having been dressed at the nearest aid-post he returned to his sub-section and personally guided them out of the line, on relief. On arrival at Company HQ he made his report and had to be evacuated at once as he was by then in an exhausted condition. This officer, by his personal bravery throughout the period, encouraged his men to hang on, and enabled the infantry to reorganise." (immediate award);
