Description

The two volumes of handwritten logs span the years 1863-1869. The ships on which Divett served were HMS Columbine; HMS Sutlej 35; HMS Victory; HMS Gladiator; HMS Duke of Wellington and HMS Martin. Divett's detailed records include descriptions of voyages in British waters and overseas, providing information on routes taken, weather conditions and various comments on the voyages. The overseas destinations included i South America, North America and the West Indies. There are a number of hand drawn charts.

Administrative / biographical background

George Ross Divett was a midshipman in the Royal Navy during the mid-19th century. He served on a number of ships, and in a variety of foreign locations. His midshipman logs were bound in these two volumes.
