Description

This file contains eight letters from Heinrich Bodmer, dated between 2 Aug 1939-6 Apr 1940, concerning a request for photographs of works in Oppé's collection to be used for a chapter Bodmer was planning to write on caricatures in the work of Annibale Carracci (1560-1609).

The file also includes a letter from Gertrud Bing, The Warburg Institute, dated 28 Mar 1940, concerning the procurement of a photograph for Oppé.

Administrative / biographical background

Heinrich Bodmer (1885-1950) was a Swiss art historian with a particular interest in the Italian Renaissance and Baroque. For most of his professional life he was the director of the Institute of Art History in Florence, and corresponded with Oppé.
