Note the parishes of Upper and Lower Gravenhurst, which had from time to time been held in plurailty from the Seventeenth Century, were united by Order in Council dated 14 August 1972. Under this order, the church of St.Giles, Upper Gravenhurst became the parish church, and St.Mary's, Lower Gravenhurst, was declared redundant. As the Churchyard at Upper Gravenhurst was closed in 1901, however, the Lower Gravenhurst churchyard remained in use as the Burial ground for the parish. It was closed in 1992.
