charge: when on active service, deserting HM's service in that he, at Clipstone Camp on 17th January 1918, when in arrest, absented himself from 3 Res Bn MGC until apprehended by the APM in London on 4/3/1918
2nd charge sheet:
1st charge: behaving in a scandalous manner unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman, in that he, on 30th day of November 1917 in exchange for £1 in cash, gave to Miss Ilse Hall, Manageress of the Picture House, a cheque for £1 on Cox & Co, well knowing that he did not have sufficient funds in the hands of the said Agents to meet the said cheque and having no reasonable grounds for believing that the aforesaid cheque would be honoured when presented.

2nd charge (alternative) Conduct to the prejudice of good order and milirary discipline, in that,on 30th day of November 1917 in exchange for £1 in cash, gave to Miss Ilse Hall, Manageress of the Picture House, a cheque for £1 on Cox & Co, well knowing that he did not have sufficient funds in the hands of the said Agents to meet the said cheque and having no reasonable grounds for believing that the aforesaid cheque would be honoured when presented.

8th charge: (alternative) Conduct to the prejudice of good order and milirary discipline, in that,on 17th December 1917,in payment for books of Mess Vouchers, gave 32869 Sgt FC Spurgeion, 3 Res Bn MGC, a cheque for £1 on Cox & Co., well knowing that he did not have sufficient funds in the hands of the said Agents to meet the said cheque and having no reasonable grounds for believing that the aforesaid cheque would be honoured when presented.

9th charge: behaving in a scandalous manner unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman, in that he, on 19th December 1917,in payment for books of Mess Vouchers, gave 32869 Sgt FC Spurgeion, 3 Res Bn MGC, a cheque for £1 on Cox & Co., well knowing that he did not have sufficient funds in the hands of the said Agents to meet the said cheque and having no reasonable grounds for believing that the aforesaid cheque would be honoured when presented.

10th charge (alternative) Conduct to the prejudice of good order and milirary discipline, in that,on 19th December 1917,in payment for books of Mess Vouchers, gave 32869 Sgt FC Spurgeion, 3 Res Bn MGC, a cheque for £1 on Cox & Co., well knowing that he did not have sufficient funds in the hands of the said Agents to meet the said cheque and having no reasonable grounds for believing that the aforesaid cheque would be honoured when presented.

Findings: Guilty of 2,4,6,8 &10 charges but not guilty of 1,3,5,7,& 9th charges

Sentence: to be dismissed HM's service

"I am directed to inform you that the gentleman of whom particulars are given below has been called upon to relinquish his commission as an officer in HMs Army on grounds other than those of disablement or ill-health and as he is of military age, would appear to be liable for service under the Military Service Acts 1916 & 1917: Richard Carrington Barlow, age on applying for Commsn: 35 (on 13/9/1915). Dismissed 18/5/1918. Permenant Address: Education Dept, Hong Kong, c/o Crown Agents for the Colonies, Ashton's Hotel, 126 Praed St, Paddington.;
