The donor's great grandfather was a Berkshire carrier. One of his sons, Joseph Harper, (1803 - 1887) who was a blacksmith, took possession of Wolverley Lodge Farm after his marriage in 1835. His son, Samuel (1845 - 1935) became the tenant in 1876 and remained in possession until the early thirties. The farm was a dairy farm
