Administrative / biographical background

St. Anne's Church in Cato Street was consecrated in 1869. A parish was assigned to it out of St. Matthew's, Duddeston. The living became a vicarage in 1874 and the patronage was in the gift of the bishop. A mission room in Great Francis Street was licensed for public worship from 1908 to 1926. The church was badly damaged by enemy action in 1941 and was closed in 1951. The benefice was united with that of St. Matthew, Duddeston and St. Lawrence, Birmingham and St. Matthew's became the parish church
