Microfilm copy of a ts account (145pp) written ca 1965 of his service with the 2nd (Home Counties) Field Company RE (8th Division) on the Western Front, December 1914 - June 1916, where he saw action at Messines Ridge and in the Ypres Salient during the capture of Hill 60 (April 1915); then with the 1/6th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (152nd Brigade, 51st Division) on the Somme, July 1916; back in the UK with No 2 Officer Cadet Battalion at Cambridge, August 1916 - spring 1917; with the 10th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (50th Brigade, 17th Division) in the Arras sector, spring - August 1917; and finally his transfer as an observer to No 6 Squadron RFC with which he served on artillery observation over the Ypres Salient (October - September 1917), training as a pilot in Egypt from January 1918, with the newly-formed RAF at Witney Training Depot in the UK (summer 1918), and with No 22 Squadron in Belgium (November 1918). Together with this memoir, which includes some interesting references to the stresses of trench warfare, are a set of photocopied documents (22pp) relating to his experiences as a tea planter in India during the Second World War, including letters and reports concerning the possible use of Naga tribesmen as a guerilla force against the Japanese in the Naga Hills in 1942.
