Appeal of George Pender Scobell, clerk, vicar of St Just in Penwith, against poor rate levied on 20 Mar. 1781 by J. [T.?] S. Allen, Humphry Stone, James Saundry and John Lanyon, overseers and churchwardens, and allowed by John Price and Samuel Borlase, esqs, on grounds that many owners of rateable property are omitted, and rate levied on glebe and tithes is exorbitant: rate quashed for insufficiency.

Declarations on oath by William Roskelly, master, and Richard James, mariner, of the sloop Success, that, on 29 Sep. 1780, they shipped 11 tons of white salt, on which duty was paid, from Bristol to Falmouth on account of Messrs Traers and Mr James Nankivell of Truro, and that 3 tons was lost, due to a gale.

Rebecca, wife of Thomas Jago, late of Mevagissey, fisherman; acquitted of stealing 4 silver tea-spoons, value 6d., from Robert Thomas.

John Millett of Redruth, gent.; acquitted of assault against Robert Peter, clerk, for want of prosecution, and provided with copy of indictment.

William Wasley, late of Gwennap, tinner; convicted of stealing a deal board, value 2d., from Sir William Lemon: to be publicly whipped at Wheal Virgin.

Daniel Tremeer, als Tremear, late of Advent, labourer; convicted of stealing a black silk handkerchief, value 1d., from Thomas Burt: 14 days' imprisonment.

Catharine Duncaster, late of Sithney, widow; convicted of stealing 5 lbs of tobacco, value 6d., from William Pascoe: 7 days' imprisonment.

Catharine, wife of John Harden, late of St Austell, butcher, acquitted of stealing 7 yards of printed cotton, value 10d., from Philip Ball.

Sum of £475 16s. levied and paid to Vice-Treasurer, together with any other money in his possession, after interest payments made: to be used as part repayment of debt of £2,950 incurred for building the new prison.

Vice-Treasurer to advance £25 to Mr Daniel Carthew, attorney at law, for prosecuting Elizabeth Spencer, committed to county jail on suspicion of having murdered her husband on St Mary's, Scilly Isles.

William Bemfree of Kenwyn, tailor: committed to bridewell for want of sureties to abide by bastardy order, made this sessions on application of Gwennap, concerning child of Frances Phillipps.
