Title
The Law Courts of England
Date
12 Nov 1853 - 17 Apr 2002
Description

The project was initiated by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England in 1999, in order to document the way in which the form and function of law courts has developed from around 1750 to the present day.

During the project, Architectural Survey staff visited all working courthouses in England, as well as prominent buildings that were formerly the venue for law courts. Brief reports were produced for about half of the sites visited, and most sites were recorded photographically.

An interim report was produced in February 2001 to brief English Heritage and the Court Service about the evolution of working courts.

Project material is also held in the following Buildings Files: BF094663; BF106177; BF093389; BF015571; BF035836; BF064221; BF061945; BF093786; BF076199; BF083099; BF041712; BF087893; BF093737; BF0094581.
