In 1685 John and Edward Inskipp mortgaged it to William Kemp of Lindfield, gent and in 1730 Edwards grandson, George of Hailsham, currier, released the property (described as having been casually burnt) to Dr Richard Russell of South Malling. In 1782 William Kempe of South.Malling, formerly called William Russell, the eldest son of Richard Russell, mortgaged the property (now 2 houses) to Thomas Hope of Rye, sadler who sold to Robert Chester Cooper in 1794. Bodle sold to John Ade coach-maker in 1823 who the next year sold to George Drowley, horse-dealer. He then sold in 1828 to Sargent Harman, smith, who mortgaged it to John Rickman to whom it was released after Harmans death since the mortgage money was unpaid. The property was acquired by the council on 28 July 1932.
