Genre: Architectural Photography. With inscription: 'Copied in the Quarter Mr. Genls Office, Mahableshwar, 10th Novr. 1855', and initialled 'J.W.'[?]. India Museum no. 61. See also prints 4096-4098. Also reproduced as a hand-coloured lithograph in 'Selections from the Records of the Bombay Government' (no. 43, new series, Bombay, 1857), in James Felix Jones' 'Memoir on the Province of Baghdad', between pp. 310-311. The published version states that the view is 'From a photograph by Assistant Surgeon J. McA. [James McAdam] Hyslop.' Jones' text (p. 311) also confirms that the originals were photographic views: 'The nine views of Baghdad which now follow are kindly furnished me by Dr. Hyslop. They are photographs of his own taking, quite true, though somewhat indistinct owing to deterioration of the collodion.'.
