[The Association was formed in 1940 as an umbrella organisation for local horticultural societies and associations of allotment holders. It provided education and advice, acted as bulk purchaser of supplies such as lime, and ran the Dig for Victory Show (later Reading Show; see D/EX 1613 for records).
