Custodial history

These records were received from a number of different sources. The main deposit, Accession 435, came from the Vicar in 1951. Acc. 85 was found among the records of the Maidenhead Union transferred from the Public Assistance Department (? in 1943), and from the basement of No. 7 Abbot's Walk, Reading, to the Record Office in 1948. The records which form Acc. 223 were formerly kept with Guardians' papers at Wilton House, Reading, whence they were transferred to the Record Office in 1950. Acc. 370 comprises records deposited by the Librarian, Maidenhead Public Library, in 1951; they had been found in Maidenhead Workhouse, and were examined and listed in 1918 by Messrs. J.W. Walker and H.C. Bannard (a copy of whose report is available); each bundle has a calendar of contents. A key to the report is provided overleaf. Accs. 650 and 651 were deposited by the Clerk to Bray Parish Council in 1955. A second substantial deposit, consisting primarily of the post - 1813 registers and other 19th century records, was received from the Vicar in 1958 (Acc. 774), and a third was received in 1963 (Acc. 920). Two volumes of churchwardens' accounts and other related papers were deposited by the Clerk of Bray Parish Council in 1963 (Acc. 982).

Further deposits were made by the Vicar in March and April 1976 (Accs. 2083, 2100), and in February 1991 (acc. 4728), March 1991 (acc. 4751b); in August 1991 (acc. 4858), in August 1996 (acc. 5868).
