This series consists of deposition books. Up to 1611 the series was known as examination books. Personal answers are found in volumes before 1617
These volumes record the sworn statements of witnesses before the church courts. Most depositions are prefaced by a brief biographical account of the deponent.

Arrangement (Information about the filing sequence or logical order of the record)

The volumes are arranged chronologically. Until 1610, depositions within volumes are arranged by date. Most of the 17th century volumes are somewhat confused, however, after 1693 there is a tendency for depositions relating to a particular cause to be kept together in chronological order. From 1721 they are kept alphabetically by cause until 1817.
