Administrative / biographical background

Millom Rural District Council was formed in 1934 when Millom Urban District Council and Bootle Rural District Council were amalgamated. These two councils had been established as a result of the 1894 Local Government Act. Millom U.D.C. had replaced Millom Local Board as the local government authority. The Parochial Sanitary Committees have also been absorbed by Millom R.D.C.
