Description

By WALTER DOBELL junr. of Falmer, gent., to SAMUELL TOWERS of Southover, gent., of a Lease granted by Letters Patent dated 25 June, 22 Eliz. (1580) to Sir Thomas Sackvill, knt., Lord Buckhurst, Robert Sackvill and Henry Sackvill, esqs., sons of Lord Buckhurst (inter alia) of pasture for 1840 sheep on the sheepcourses within the manor of Falmer, viz. in Newe Markett, 600 sheep called tegges, in the Vyneyard, 640 ewes and in Boroughmere course, 600 wethers, sometime in the tenure of Nicholas Jennye. Also pasture for 260 moultons alias muttons in Moulstone alias Moulton, Sussex, sometime in tenure of John Mascall; for the lives of the lessees and the longer liver of them. Also assignment of a Lease granted by Letters Patent dated 31 Aug., 8 Jas. I. (1610) to John Eldred and William Whitmore of London, esqs., of the same pasture for 50 years immediately after the death of Henry Sackvill, the survivor of the first-named lessees. Which leases came to the hands of Richard, Earl of Dorset, and by Deed dated 29 Nov., 13 Jas. I. (1615), were assigned by him to the said Walter Dobell. The Assignment by Walter Dobell to Samuel Towers was by way of security for various Bonds given by the said Samuel Towers for debts of the said W. D. amounting to £663

Walter Dobell also assigned to Samuel Towers the benefit of a collateral security for quiet enjoyment of the said sheep pastures given to him by the said Richard, Earl of Dorset, in a yearly rentcharge of £76 issuing out of the manor or farm of Swanbarrowe in Iford and Kingston, in occupation of John Vynall.
