The company was formed in 1926 as an amalgamation of three firms : Blackburn Crystal Ice Co. Ltd., Blackpool Ice and Cold Storage Co. Ltd. and Southport Crystal Ice Co. Ltd., dating from 1909, 1914 and 1920 respectively. In c. 1934, Palatine Ice and Cold Storage Co. Ltd. was taken over by the newly incorporated Palatine Dairies Ltd. but continued to trade under its old name. Palatine Dairies Ltd. also took over Calder Farmers Dairy Co. Ltd. (which had been formed in 1934) in 1948. The group became Palatine Food Services Ltd. in 1961 and the firm continues today, though now based in Blackpool.
