Administrative / biographical background

Portland House Cricket Club was affiliated to Hatcham Liberal Club whose premises were Portland House, Queens Road, New Cross. Playing members had to be members of the Liberal Club until 1952. Some time between 1952 and 1958 the connection with the Liberal Club appears to have been dissolved and the Club became Portland Wanderers.

The date of the Club's foundation is not known, but there is a mention in the minutes for 25 April 1938 of "the reformation of the Club after the Great War". After World War II the club was restarted in 1947.

The club did not have its own ground, but would hire the use of a ground for a season or for individual matches.
