Arrangement (Information about the filing sequence or logical order of the record)
-
From about 1850 until the 1880s, when a modern file system was introduced, correspondence of the Political Residency, Bushire was bound in subject compilations. Until 1862 the volumes still have Book Numbers, although it is not clear when the material was bound up, and some volumes are obviously an amalgamation of papers which were originally kept separately. For the next twenty or thirty years there are a number of series ('Old Records', 'Old System', Political Diaries'), whose record keeping was clearly not very organised (IOR/R/15/1/183-198). Some of these continue after 1889 and the beginning of the subject files.
