Such an extensive estate was inevitably involved from time to time with railway companies and their schemes. The arrangements of the six sub-classes is by company. Four of the six projects partly chronicled in these papers proved abortive. Only the first, the Isle of Wight Railway and the last, the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway, got as far a laying track, let alone carrying passengers.
