Description (What the record is about)
-
Letter from Bridget Anne Mytton to Mr. Davies. Charlotte has had 2 or 3 slight illnesses since her holidays commenced and each time confined to her bed for a couple of days - the first attack Mr. Snape was staying with them & told her he considered Charlotte a very delicate child & did not think she ought to return to school before the Quarter but remain at the sea-side; he thought the air would strengthen her; after that she had another illness & they were obliged to call in a medical man; at first he feared measles but it did not turn out so, and this surgeon advised Charlotte should remain at the sea-side until Sept. he said she would not lose much time for as the body strengthened so would the mind & she would learn faster. Mrs. Davies is anxious to do what is advised for the child & says she will remain at the sea-side until the end of Sept. She must stay also for she feels it a duty and she has made up her mind and written to tell "Papa". She will be glad to hear from Davies that she can write to Mrs. Prosser, the amount of her bill is £37.17.5 "Ought it to be paid at the end of the holidays or when Charlotte returns to school?" Mrs. Davies will not listen to any arrangements that B.A. can make for the future and begs she will not mention the subject to Davies but Bridget does not feel comfortable at all the expense falling on Mrs. D. Perhaps Davies can suggest some plan as if from himself.
John is going on comfortably and returned to Faversham last Thursday; they are now at Ramsgate but do not much like it and intend going to Broadstairs on Monday. Charlotte is now very much better & in good spirits, her appetite is improved yet Friday they went to see Dover & she enjoyed being on the water, she is a very good sailor.
Written from Ramsgate.
