The papers were inherited from a fourth cousin, John William Evershed, who was the son of Harry Evershed, co-founder of Bomford & Evershed, and a nephew of Henry Evershed, a farmer in Surrey and contributor to the Journal of the Royal Agricultural Society of England during the mid-nineteenth century.
