The Group was reconstituted by the Board, having previously been the Missionary and Ecumenical Council Faith and Order Advisory Group. The first meeting of the Group took place at Millbank, Westminster, London, on 22 March 1966, with Canon EW Kemp in the Chair. In the first year the Group met four times under the chairmanship of the Dean of Worcester, with its work centring on preparing the Board's Report on the Church of South India. Additional work in the first year was commenting on draft documents on Baptism and on the Eucharist produced by Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches. In January 1966 the Terms of Reference of the Group were stated to be; a, To bring before the Archbishops and the Missionary and Ecumenical Council such Faith and Order matters as demand the attention in the Church of England and should be referred to the Convocations or to the Church Assembly. b, To draw the attention of Committees or Commissions to relevant work done under the Faith and Order Departments in the matter under discussion. c, To encourage Anglican participation in the Faith and Order studies of the World Council of Churches and the British Council of Churches. d, To be a consultative group to advise the Archbishops, the Convocations and the Church Assembly on such matters as are referred to it. e, To maintain liasion with other Provinces of the Anglican Communion and with the Executive Officer on Faith and Order matters. The first meeting of the [NEW] Group was held at Church House, Westminster, on the 9 September 1980. At the meetings the Chairman, Rt. Revd. Barry Rodgerson, Bishop of Wolverhampton [but then Dean of Worcester], outlined the parameters of the group's task as being as follows; 1. To provide a forum in which representatives of appropriate agencies within the Church of England could consider material and questions concerning inter-faith relations coming to the Church of England or BCC or other agencies and advise PMU; 2. To provide a meeting point for representatives of those agencies within the Church of England which are concerned with inter-faith relations for the exchange of information and practical co-ordination; 3. If requested to do so by BMU to give advice on inter-faith relations. Mary Tanner, BMU Theological Secretary, was Secretary to the Group.
