Description

1) Richard Sandford, Esq. of Plowden, Salop, Thomas Baker jnr. of Yetton, Salop.

2) Roger Griffiths, yeoman, of Up Rossall. Whereas the Queen by the advice of her councellors William Lord Burghley, Treasurer of England & Walter Myldmay Knight Chancellor of her Court of Exchequer and of the barons of the Court for the sum of £57 5s. 4d. at the receipt of the Court of Exchequer paid by Richard and Thomas, did by her letters patent 17th June 15 Eliz: (1573) demise and grant to Richard and Thomas, among other things, her tenement and all lands, meadows, feeding pastures, commons, profits, commodities and emoluments belonging to the tenement in Up Rossall and Udlington, then or late in the tenure of Roger Griffith and all the outhouses, stables, barns, dovehouses, orchards, gardens, etc. and rights belonging (except and reserving to the Queen all great trees, woods, underwood, mines and quarries on the premises); all which premises are parcel of the lands and hereditaments of Francis Englefield late Knight and now in the hands and disposition of the Queen by reason of the forfeiture of Francis Englefield, for because Francis went out of the realm of England into the parts beyond the seas and there abided against the form of divers statutes lately set forth; to hold the tenement and lands etc. to Richard and Thomas from the Annunciation last before the date of the letters patent as long as the premises should or ought to remain in the hands of the Queen or her successors by reason of the forfeiture; rendering yearly for the tenement and appurtenances inthe tenure of Roger £3 7s. 0d. at Michaelmas and the Annunciation at the Receipt of the Exchequer in even portions to be paid during the term granted by the letters patent with other covenants and articles in the letters patent; now Richard and Thomas in consideration of a certain sum of money paid to them by Roger have bargained, sold and assigned to Roger all their estate, right, title,use, interest, possession and term yet to come in the premises, to hold the same property, with the same reservation, to Roger from Michaelmas last for the time as in the letters patent and with all covenants to pay yearly to the Queen for the premises £3 7s. 0d. at Michaelmas and the Annunciation or within 40 days after either of the feasts, discharging Richard and Thomas from paying it; and Roger will from time to time during the term at his cost sufficiently repair and maintain the buildings, hedges, ditches, banks and walls on the premises and leave them in good repair at the end of the term; and that Roger shall not during the term to any voluntary or wilful waste in any of the buildings and Roger may take growing on the premises competent and sufficient housebot, hedgebot, firebot, ploughbot and cartbot, yearly to be spent and also timber in the woods and lands growing for the repair of the houses and buildings by the assignment of the Treasurer of England and of the Councellors of the Exchequer; and Thomas and Richard covenant that they will do nothing prejudicial to Roger, by any acts etc.
