born 3/12/1894 at Kotagala, Ceylon. Eld son of Francis Simcoe Vowler and Ellen FA Vowler (nee Gordon) educ Oaklands Court, St Peters, Isle of Thanet and Sherbourne School (rep at Bisley). To Sandhurst - commsn 1914 Sherwood For (regimemt of grandfather - Maj SB Gordon). To BEF 1914. Ret UK and joined MGC at Grantham. To BEF 15 Coy (at battle of Vimy) hit by fragment of 5.9 shell, in hosp 4 months. To Grantham. Joined No 2 Officer Cadet Bn 26/8/1917. Selected to train officer cadets at Guards Huts at Pirbright and then at Hazeley Down, Winchester. Prom Capt 2 SF and was Major (MGC - Tanks) since Feb 1918. Came back home with influenza/pneumonia and died. His brother Lt JAG Vowler, Leinsters & MGC died at Netley 18 m ago.
Medical board 25/1/1918 - wounded by shell on Vimy Ridge was I/c MG section(15 Coy) - shell burst 15 yards away - wounded left arm, leg and hand.
Died at Launceston at home of father, Frank Vowler, Edymead House, Launceston, a retired tea planter. Estate £169.12.6d.
