Throughout the two days, in spite of heavy shellfire, which on one occasion buried him and one of his guns, he kept his guns in action and by his courage and example maintained excellent control of the men under his command. Awarded MM as a Private 23/8/1917". Recommended by FG Payne, Cdg 165 Coy MGC, countersigned Brig A Boyd-Moss, CMG, Cdg 165 Inf Bde.;
