Richd. How (Aspley) to Richd. Thos. How, son (Aspley) Long letter urging him not to marry Sally, who is destined by birth to a life of drudgery, bred to labour & to exercise the powers of the body, endued with mental faculties suited to her station & furnished by the wise author of nature with hands & arms of which the size, shape & colour point out the occupation to which they are adapted ... such well become a kitchen or a cottage but would disgrace a parlour - Compare his case with that of his brother, whose love fit was over in a year or two when he heartily rejoiced at his happy escape from the impending ruin - Reminds him of the affair with M. L - gst f against whom he warned him, which advice he accepted Threatens to cut him off with a bare annuity of £20 for life, if he does not immediately disengage himself from Sally & get a discharge from her to be put in his (Richd. How's) hands with a solemn declaration ... to contract no engagement with each other for 3 years ...
