Correspondence from the British Records Association, with which the book was initially deposited, suggests that it had been found by Mrs Coleman's father 'in the wall of an old farmhouse in Eastbourne'. In her own letter presenting the document, Mrs Coleman merely states that it had been given to her by her father.
