Description (What the record is about)
-
Survey volume FF9 is the last in the series of nine 'FF' volumes, which covers the Ecclesiastical Corporations of Worcester, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under mid nineteenth century parliamentary legislation. ; This volume covers the surveys carried out on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by their appointed land agents, Messrs. Smith & Watkins. The preferments in this volume concern the Worcester Bishoprick Estates, which were vested in the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 13 November 1860 by vacancy. ; These surveys were essential to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, as the survey reports gave a comprehensive way of clearly ascertaining the extent, condition and value of the preferments being transferred. ; As preferments were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners from the Ecclesiastical Corporations, the various holdings of the estates were either kept or sold; the land agents supplied recommendatory advice on this matter with the survey reports.; However, it is important to mention that portions of the Worcester Episcopal Estates were re-endowed back to the Ecclesiastical Corporation as the permanent endowment of the See of Worcester on 29 September 1870 (effective date), which was published in the London Gazette on 12 August 1870. These permanent estates were then subsequently transferred back to the Church Commissioners as Bishopric Late Permanent Estates (under the Episcopal Endowments and Stipends Measure, 1943) on 1 April 1948 (effective date), which was published in the London Gazette on 30 April 1948 by Order in Council. ; The volume also has added annotations often regarding the disposal of property or land since the surveys were originally carried out and therefore incorporates later dates.; The geographical areas covered within the volume includes: the county of Worcestershire, parishes of Claines, Elmley Castle, Fladbury, Norton, Kempsey, White Ladies Aston, Ripple, Church Lench, Inkberrow, Welland, Wichenford, Worcester St. Martin, Worcester St Nicholas, Worcester St. Clement, Worcester St. Peter; the county of Shropshire [Salop], parishes of Richards Castle, Clee St. Margaret Holgate, Rushbury and Long Staunton; and the county of Herefordshire, parish of Leintwardine.
