Furley now pays £100 per annum for help for his third portion "you are asking me take an extra Church and Schools more than Furley has and to receive £54 10s. per annum i.e. about half the sum for doing double the work ..... When he spoke of the third portionist having little to do, he was speaking of this portion of Pontesbury, and not Longden, which is a separate case and need not necessarily go with Pontesbury at all.

As for services at Asterley it is one thing to take a service on a Sunday and another to have charge of the parish - the first could be done for a £1 1s. 0d. per Sunday, the other would need £150 per annum for a curate which would be necessary under the proposed arrangements. He, (Seddon), made a generous offer to take £100 per annum or glebe to that amount in Pontesbury. "I must say that I am surprised that I should be asked to do anything less than that, I should certainly be very sorry to ask anyone to do such a thing myself".
