Gallantry Notes: MC: On several occasions when the advance of the infantry was being impeded he advanced in front with his section and engaged the enemy machinem guns and snipers at close range, capturing one prisoner himself. When his ammunition was getting short and his teams depleted through casualties, he salved ammunition from a broken-down tank and kept his guns in action until fresh supplies could be brought.

Bar to MC: He dis played conspicuous gallantry and initiative during an advance guard action in an attack on Villeeveque on 7/9/1918. He led his section forward in front of the infantry in the face of heavy fire engaging the enemy machine guns and parties retreating at close range anf clearing the way for our infantry. Herecaptured a British 9.2 howitzer near the village. He success of the operation was largely due to his courage and determination. (MC 11/1/1919)
