Description

John Noakes of Ticehurst, gent

1 To his nephew John Noakes of Ticehurst, yeoman, messuage, tenement, barn, garden, orchards and lands at Dale Hill, Ticehurst, called Dale Hill and Steel Lands; Capital messuage, barn, stables, gardens, orchards, woodlands and premises in Ticehurst, purchased from the Rev John Dry, clerk

Farm and lands called Merriams, Colletts Down and Rough Fields Strake, and gardens (130a) in Ticehurst, in the occupation of John Brisenden, purchased from John Gibbs, yeoman

Messuage, barn, gardens, orchards and woodlands called Ham Place otherwise White House, in Burwash, now or late in the occupation of John Constable, gent., purchased from John Butler, gent, dec

Messuage and several parcels called Brazen Eyes, the Cook's Field, and the Bear Croft (16a) in Burwash now in the occupation of John Constable, William Corns and Thomas Dann, purchased from John Plummer gent. (All the above properties are subject to payment of £40 annuity to his nephew James Keene for life.)

2 To his nephew in law Peter Cliften of Lamberhurst and his wife Martha (niece of John Noakes) all his messuages, orchards, farms, woodlands, in Lamberhurst, Goudhurst and Westfield; Messuage, called Lymden and 74a land in Ticehurst, now or late in the occupation of James Ollive; Messuage, barn, outhouses and 35a land in Ticehurst, called Wishdown, now or late in the occupation of John Wily

These bequests are made for life with remainders to their heirs then to Joseph Newington of Witherden, Ticehurst, and Thomas Stapley of Lamberhurst, subject to the annuity mentioned in 1 above

3 To John Noakes the younger, his son, the messuage in which he dwells called Longland Wist at East Limden in Ticehurst (18a) Farm and land called Wallerouch Land (20a) in Ticehurst; New Lodge Field with its lodges, yards, shaws or coppices (5a) in Ticehurst, late belonging to James Ollive

Messuage, shop, garden, orchards and 4a land in Ticehurst late Brown's and formerly Simmonds. Messuage and orchard formerly Carrick's and late Beary's in Ticehurst now in the occupation of James Brockhurst, purchased by John Noakes for Mary May and Charity May

Land in the occupation of William Waghorne and Edward Lulham, 3a land and tenements called the Churchyard field, in Ticehurst; Parkmead and Pickstraws (6a) in Ticehurst late Hyborns

Messuage, garden and orchard in Ticehurst in the occupation of John Mabb

All his husbandry tackling; £200

4 To his nephew James Kine, annuity for life as specified in (1) above

5 To his wife Elizabeth, life interest in the house and premises in which he and she now dwell, free of rent. All household goods and all the things that were hers before their marriage. Plate, linen, bedding and furniture, with remainder to their son John; £400

6 To Mary, wife of Thomas Smith of Hook Green Lamberhurst, carpenter late Mary Latter and previously Mary Noakes, sister to his nephew John Noakes the elder, £20

7 To Elizabeth, wife of James Reeves now or late of Mountfield, furnaceman, another sister of John Noakes the elder £20

8 To Mercy, wife of William Davis of Lamberhurst labourer, another sister of John Noakes the elder, £40

9 To the six children of Susan, late wife of William Cheeseman of Wadhurst, farmer, another sister of John Noakes the elder, £10 apiece upon obtaining 21 years, or the £60 to be divided equally between their survivors at 21 years

10 To the poor of Ticehurst £20

11 To his executors, Peter Cliften and John Noakes the elder, remainder of his money
