Mostly relating to Hoxton and Haggerston. Includes various reports of crimes and accidents 1764-1827 (including theft of a Dalston parrot, 1827; accident in Clifton St, 1826; theft from summer house called Noah's Ark in Bartlet's Gardens on the east side of Hoxton with description of contents, 1768); auction notices (of reversion of Hoxton Manor, 1718; sale of building materials of St John at Hackney Church and Church House, 1791; houses in Bridport Place early 19th c; a new intended public house on Frank Street, with a house (near 'Peerless Pool), 1762; adverts for academies (in Charles Square, 1772; opening of Fancourt's Academy in Hoxton Square, 1810); and miscellaneous (advert for sermon by George Clayton, 1818; advert that the house of the late Claudius Gillet of Hoxton for lunatics is now run by William Prowting, 1710; recovery of an attempted suicide in Hoxton workhouse, 1764; the blocking up of a path near Haberdasher's Almshouses by agents of Haberdashers Co, 1771; various reports re meetings of the Refuge for the Destitute, 1818-27; advert of thanks to Charles Sutherland of 12 Charles Square for fund raising for the relatives of the victims of the Meckle Ferry disaster 1810; advert for Dyall's Public Library, 33 Gloucester St, Haggerston, early 19th C; collapse of old house near Lord Cobham's, Hoxton, 1771. Also illustrations of windmills near Hoxton (trade card format) 18th C; and of J. Hooper tutor at Hoxton Academy (engr and drawn by R. Woodman and pub Home Missionary Soc, 1824).
