The Gloster IV was a racing seaplane especially deveolped for the RAF High Speed Flight to use in the Schnieder Trophy contests. Said to be the cleanest biplanes ever built, Gloster IVB achieved a speed of 295 mph from a 885 hp Napier Lion engine. it was flown in the 1927 contest in Venice. Three machines were used for research and training for later contests
